Artist to Watch: Polly Morgan

I have had my eye on Polly Morgan for the last few years. Her work takes repurposing to a new level. Not that I enjoy the death of animals, however Polly takes something that was once beautiful, reinterprets death and makes the animal beautiful again. She takes the scary out of death and gives it a new and poetic meaning. Polly doesn't kill animals, in case that is what you were wondering. Ever since Polly surfaced into the art scene I have seen a lot of fine art "taxidermists" crop up trying to do something similar. Her work is truly breath-taking. Butch Anthony's Home in the Sticks, Georgia

I love this place. Artist, Butch Anthony, and his wife did an incredible job building and decorating this bare bones, folksy dream cabin in Columbus, Georgia. You can view the entire Times slideshow here.

Salute to Dan Marty

L.A. Shopkeeper and Interior Designer extraordinaire, Dan Marty, was featured in the May issue of House Beautiful. It is a beautiful feature showcasing Dan Marty's L.A. Tuscan style villa apartment, exquisitely decorated and photographed. Some items in the home can be found at his shop in West Hollywood, Maison Au Naturel. I love his style. Here are some random photos of Dan Marty's work.

This bedroom photo gets me. I have been eyeing that rug (if it is the exact same one, I believe it is from Ikea) for a few years now, but have worried about how much attention it would draw in a space. It really works in this space. I think because it is balanced by the exposed beams on the ceiling. This would not work in a room with very little texture to ground it.

Type geeks attn: Typeface helpy helperson.

Click to enlarge. What is irritating to me is that my type library is seriously lacking and I am in need of some of these staples. I could live without the Zapfino.

New Handmade Throw Pillows

I found this old salt sack a while back. In case you are wondering, yes it is clean. I like how it looks kind of dirty. I could have treated the stains but strategically chose not to. The other case is made from great vintage club stripe fabric I found a while ago. I have a huge piece of this fabric so I still have a lot leftover. I made it with an opening so that I can clean it. I am pretty anal about clean pillowcases. I love this fabric. It  has great texture and the black stripes give it a nautical feel because they look like rope. It has a bamboo pillow form and the other is a down form courtesy Ikea.

An Ikea Treasure

I snapped this little gem on the bottom of a crate lying around at Ikea Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. I love it. It looks like a Scandinavian bat—minimalist wings. Plus, I love the misprinted numbers.

New nest. Bedroom has potential.

Pretty sure this loud wall-paper in my new studio is hand-painted. Green is good for creativity, right? The rest is the bedroom. It has potential and the wall paper may be difficult to work around but I believe it can be done. The hooks are amazing. There are a few scattered throughout the closets in here. It is a project.
